Po Boys - The Irish Centre, Leeds December 2008

It was a cold and miserable night outside, but inside the Irish Centre there was a very responsive crowd waiting for ‘The Boys’ to come on stage as these days they only play a handful of gigs.  It has been a couple of years since I last saw the Po Boys and that gig was also held at The Irish Centre and I had forgotten how big a venue it was.

Jep (the lead singer) was on fine form from the moment he came on stage and showed just how good a showman he really is. For over an hour and a half the man never stopped moving and made me out of breath just to watch!!!  With their mixture of rock/punk/Jam "The Boy’s" were always going to be onto a winner and the crowd proved that as the dance floor was always full.  It is obvious that they have a huge following as they were joined on stage by one member of the crowd (although I do believe they knew him) who complete with a blow up saxophone pretended to be part of the band and received huge applause – possibly more than the band!!!

The only disappointment on the night was the sound wasn’t the best as I have heard them sound much clearer at previous gigs and the lighting was poor from a photography point of view but this did not detract from the band.

All in all it was a really great atmosphere and a thoroughly enjoyable night and I came away with the promise that I wouldn’t leave it as long to see them in action again.
